Here is a quick little tip to save you some flat fixing and/or walking time:
Check your tires for glass and debris weekly.
Even if you have some fancy pants flat resistant tires, glass that is in your tire can work its way past the flat protection when being pushed in with every tire rotation.
When picking out the glass here are a couple tips:
- Wear eye protection – Glass that flies from the tire may go right in your eye. This can be far worse than a flat tire.
- Let the air out of your tire first. – The less in the in the tire, the easier it is to get the glass out without pushing it through into your tube.
- Use anĀ instrumentĀ of some sorts instead of your fingers. – We head over to American Science and Surplus and pick up dental tools to pick out the small debris. Tweezers or an old spoke can also work well.
